I had known Damo for four short years, he was one of my husband's best friends but was also one of my good friends; he was our first born daughter's Godfather.
He was in the 2nd Battallion the Yorkshire Regiment (The Green Howards) for nine years. Damo went to Afghanistan in September 2007 to do his second 6 month tour but heart breakingly he never returned (although he will live on forever in our hearts). He has a daughter Jessica who was born in May 2004 who he loved with all his heart.
Damo came home for two weeks R&R in January and thankfully spent some quality time with his daughter before returning to Afghanistan. The night his mum Alison dropped him off in Blackpool to fly back he came to my house and spent four hours with us before leaving for the airport. The thing i feel worst about is that I feel I never got to say goodbye to him before he went back which I dont think anybody did because none of us knew what was around the corner. I will never forget the night he was at my house. Before he and my husband Kev left for the airport we were reminissing about all the good times we had had; because Damo had been on his promotion course before leaving for Afghanistan none of us had really seen much of him so it was a time to catch up.
At the time I was pregnant with our third child who we named Keane Damian in memory of Damo in a hope to keep his memory alive.
Kev and Damo had a little thing going on before they went to Afghanistan and it was that if anything happened to one of them then the other would take their child/children to Disney Land one day and we will keep our promise to Damo by taking Jessica there one day, no matter how long it takes us to do it we promise it will happen.
Damo you will live on forever in our hearts and souls I hope you are in peace now, you will always be remembered as a true hero and you left us doing something that you loved, our love goes out to all of your family Rest In Peace and look over us and keep us well, Sleep tight forever in our thoughts, Love always Kev, Toni, Tyra-leigh, Kai Michael and Keane Damian x x x x x x x x x x x

Year and a half gone by now, but because of the infrequency we actually ran into each other due to me living away and Damo obviously being in the army this still doesn't really sink in. He's buried in the cemetary at the back of my house so go visit from time to time. Honestly get lost for words with these things simply because i cant write enough about Big D. From knocking about when we were kids quite frequently to growing apart as adults, it guts me the fact that seeing each other was few and far between in recent times. BUT on the flipside of the coin, it was an absolute pleasure to have known him while he was here. See you next time i skip over the wall to come see you kid ;-)

I know I never met you but I know that you meant a lot to my darling husband, and therefore you meant a lot to me, anyone who is close to Kev is a part of my family, i just want to let you know that Kev is looking out for Jessie, even in his dreams, we are going to see her at christmas as well as your mum, we want the best for everyone and we have stayed close to the one's that meant a lot to you.
Kev said you really looked out for him in Afghanistan, Its just a shame I never got to say thank you and to buy you a drink, we've had a few in memory of you.

I cant believe its nearly a year since you were taken from us, i still talk to you in the stars and have told Tyra-leigh that you have become a bright star in the sky so she does still stay goodnight to you just like when you were all in Afghanistan, sleep tight and rest in peace you will never be forgotten. x x x x
